How to Prepare for a Maternity Shoot in Edmonton

A maternity shoot is a beautiful way to honour this chapter, and a little preparation makes all the difference. As an Edmonton maternity photographer, here’s everything we tell our expecting clients before their session.

The best time to book

The sweet spot is usually between 28 and 34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round but you’re still comfortable enough to move and pose. If you’re expecting multiples, consider booking a couple of weeks earlier.

What to wear

Form-fitting pieces that hug the bump photograph best, think a fitted dress, a bodycon set, or even draped fabric for an editorial look. Bring one flowing option and one fitted option for range. We have flexible studio styling ideas if you’d like guidance.

What to expect during the session

We direct every pose, so you never have to figure it out yourself. We’ll guide gentle, flattering movement and give you plenty of breaks. The whole session is relaxed and at your pace.

Include your partner and kids

Maternity sessions are gorgeous solo, but bringing your partner or older children adds emotion and story. Coordinate their outfits with your palette and we’ll create a few family frames alongside your solo portraits.

How to glow

  • Hydrate well the day before
  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Consider our makeup add-on for a finished look
  • Moisturise the bump for soft, even skin on camera
