Family Photoshoot Outfit Guide: Edmonton Edition

The number one question we get as an Edmonton family photographer is “what should we wear?” Get the outfits right and your family photos feel cohesive and timeless; get them wrong and even great moments look busy. Here’s the simple system we share with every family.

Coordinate, don’t match

Matching everyone in identical white shirts and jeans is dated. Instead, pick a palette of two or three colours and let each person wear their own version of it. The result feels intentional and modern, not like a uniform.

Palettes that work on our backdrops

Against our neutral studio backdrops, earthy tones, creams, soft blues, deep greens and classic black-and-white all photograph beautifully. Choose one anchor colour, then layer in complementary tones and textures.

Dressing kids for a smooth shoot

  • Comfortable pieces they won’t fuss with
  • A backup outfit in case of spills
  • Avoid characters and big logos
  • Bring a small snack and a favourite toy for breaks

What to avoid

  • Everyone in the exact same colour
  • Loud patterns that clash between people
  • Brand-new stiff clothing
  • Neon tones that reflect onto skin

Studio or outdoor?

Our studio is reliable year-round and keeps little ones warm and focused, while outdoor sessions add natural Edmonton scenery in the warmer months. We’ll help you choose based on your family and the season.
